Working in conjunction with the FCC Bureaus are 11 Staff Offices. The Offices are separate entities from the Bureaus providing them with support on various initiatives, often working together. The 11 Bureaus and their functions are as follows:Office of Administrative Law Judges The OALJ is essentially the FCC’s judicial review board, determining the result of hearings on interlocutory requests, or requests that will cease and desist an action in progress or give temporary live to an action on hiatus, such as petitions to intervene, petitions to enlarge issues and contested discovery requests.Office of Communications Business Operations The OCBO focuses on minor and women owned small businesses helping to ensure their fair competition within the market by working with industry officials, public interest groups and other influential parties. The Office promotes diversity in perspectives and equal access to and implementation of FCC resources and policies.Office of Engineering and Technology The OET provides support and advice with regards to technologically complex issues or engineering related issues, i.e. managing the electromagnetic spectrum and keeping track of certified equipment accessible to the public.Office of General Counsel The General Counsel represents the FCC in any litigation issues in US Federal courts and serves as in a legal advisory capacity in the decision making process.Office of the Inspector General The OIG safeguards issues of agency fraud and makes recommendations about corrective action to the United States Department of Justice.Office of Legislative Affairs The OLA helps to keep Congress and the FCC on the same page by preparing witnesses for Congressional hearings, providing FCC responses to proposed legislation and Congressional inquiries. This office also serves in a similar capacity with state and local governments.Office of the Managing Director The OMD handles primarily in-house FCC matters, such as budget, personnel, security and publications.Office of Media Relations The OMR is operates as the PR arm of the organization providing information, announcements and updates to media outlets.Office of the Secretary The OSEC is responsible for the receipt and distribution of public documents through both the public and electronic filing systems and also publishing legal notices in the Federal Registrar and the official FCC Record.Office of Strategic Planning & Policy Analysis The OSP considers larger trends within each FCC initiative, working in a think tank capacity, and consults the FCC on areas of improvement and optimal courses of action.Office of Workplace Diversity Creates policy pertaining to equal opportunity and treatment in the workplace across race, religion, gender, color, age, disability, orientation or national origin.
